When an elderly woman from Radviliškis, Lithuania, became too ill to care for herself, she was admitted to the hospital, leaving behind her beloved pets. With no family nearby to take them in, Pluto and his furry companions were left abandoned in an empty homestead, their lives hanging by a thread.
Pluto, a once-vibrant pup, was in the worst condition when the rescue shelter “Vyšnių sodas” from Vilnius arrived. Starving and suffering from Mange, his body was reduced to skin and bones, and his eyes reflected only pain and hopelessness. He was a shadow of the dog he once was, having endured months of neglect and suffering.
Upon arriving at the shelter, Pluto was so weak and traumatized that he could barely move. He refused to eat, and his burning skin required multiple daily treatments. His condition was so severe that he had to be isolated, unable to even enjoy the simple pleasure of a walk. For three long months, Pluto endured unimaginable pain, barely surviving each day.
But Pluto’s story didn’t end in despair. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of the shelter staff, who treated him with endless patience and love, Pluto slowly began to heal. It took six months before he found the courage to step outside again, taking tentative steps on the grass that once terrified him. With time, Pluto began to socialize, eat more, and regain his strength. Though he remains cautious around people, he has regained most of his weight and even enjoys playing with other dogs.
